The director, David Lynch, has finally made the breakthrough into shooting commercials. After years of scraping by in Hollywood making films such as Blue Velvet, Eraserhead and Straight Story, he was given the chance to direct the launch commercial for Sony's PlayStation 2 by TBWA \ London.
"I'm delighted," Lynch said. "I feel that all those years of paying my dues in Hollywood were worth the effort. Two-hour features are all very well but what any director worth his salt really wants to be shooting is 60-second ads. It's hard to imagine that it wasn't very long ago that I thought I'd never make the breakthrough.
