Ward's new Tucson store breaks mold

CHICAGO -- Montgomery Ward opened a store in Tucson on April 13 that may set a trend and help make the term "mass merchandiser" obsolete -- and the term "specialty store" hotter than ever.

And Sears, whose chief executive officer Edward A. Brennan is the brother of Ward's chairman and chief executive officer Bernard F. Brennan, is signaling that it, too, is moving toward specialization as part of its restructuring.
