BTG has acquired the US and European rights to a non-invasive method for detecting foetal DNA in maternal serum or plasma samples.

The method should be applicable to pre-natal tests for a number of different inherited disorders, including Down's Syndrome, reducing the need for invasive tests.

BTG is seeking commercial partners to carry out the development of this technology.

The technology is the invention of a team of scientists at the University of Oxford, whose research revealed that DNA from the unborn baby finds its way into the mother's serum.

DNA analysis can then be conducted to detect the presence of a number of genetic disorders. …
