* Profile: FPL Group owns energy operations from Maine to California, but most of its revenues are produced by its utility subsidiary Florida Power & Light (FPL). FPL generates electricity primarily from oil, gas and nuclear sources for about 3.8 million customers in eastern and southern Florida. The group's nonutility holdings include FPL Energy, which manages unregulated power projects, and FPL FiberNet, which wholesales fiber-optic network capacity. FPL and FPL Energy also market wholesale power. Plans for FPL Group to merge with Entergy have been called off.

Top competitors include MidAmerican Energy, Progress Energy and TECO Energy.
