Nick Gatfield is understood to be on the verge of making a return to the UK record business after nearly a decade in the US with a senior role at Universal Island.

Gatfield, who started his career as a member of Dexys Midnight Runners, is expected to join the Universal company in mid-June in a consultancy role with an A&R brief. The label currently has no full-time head of A&R.

Gatfield last worked in the UK business in the early Nineties at EMI, where he was head of A&R. He subsequently moved to the US, launching his own label ...
