Captain Hidetoshi Nakata led the Japan national team into the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup by scoring the game-winning free kick in a 1-0 victory over Australia at International Stadium Yokohama on Thursday.

Asian champion Japan, leader of Group B, beat Oceania representative and Group A runner-up side Australia in the first semifinal match before a crowd of 48,699, and will play Group A winner France in the final of the eight-nation tournament that began on May 30 and will end with the final on Sunday.
