The Charleston County School Board approved 14 new principals Monday night, and the board is expected to fill several more at its next meeting. The district has principal openings in at least 17 schools, and Superintendent Ron McWhirt said there will be more.
McWhirt said the large number of vacancies has grown out of the district's accountability plan.
"We're trying to get the right match between the school leadership and the schools," he said.
