List of area elder care facilities points to relatively stable market.

This year's Business Times list of the 25 Largest Pittsburgh-Area Elder Care Facilities (see list, next page), which racks facilities offering everything from independent living to skilled nursing units, shows a relatively stable six-county picture of the area's elder care facilities market.

HOW DO THEY DO IT?

UPMC Senior Living Corp. (No. 1 again) has boosted total beds by 100 since last year. The unit of UPMC Health System has come on strong since its inception in 1993 and has, at least in part. parlayed the hospital management expertise of its parent into a successful formula for dominating (by nearly 1,000 beds) its nearest rival in the metro area.
