A largely symbolic shift in power is under way at Times Community Newspapers, a major presence in Northern Virginia's community publications.

President Peter Arundel is accepting the role of publisher of the chain's Fairfax County papers from his father Arthur Arundel. The change mainly is a transfer of title, as Peter Arundel already works most often in the company's office in Reston, and he says he is well-versed in the business details of the Fairfax publications.

The change, however, will allow the elder Arundel to get back into the trenches.
