KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs. - For the first time since its inception some 50 years ago, Pas will have women candidates contesting for posts in its national central working committee.
Of the 74 candidates vying for the 18 available positions, five are from the party's Dewan Muslimat (women's wing).
According to its secretary-general Nasharuddin Md Isa no women candidates had ever contested for national committee posts before.
He added this was not because of constitutional provisions.
"Prior to this, the party had appointed women to the committee but this time, they want to be elected", he added.
