Wetlands ruling affects businesses, environment

Wetlands legislation in the Ohio General Assembly likely will impact the future of area businesses as much as the wetlands themselves.

"I don't think I would lose it all," said Mark Dilley, a freelance environmental consultant in Westerville. "But I would say about 60 to 70 percent of my work right now is with wetlands."

Dilley works in the area of wetlands delineation, permitting and some mitigation and has Clients ranging from engineering consulting firms to developers to public recreation departments in Central Ohio.

"Certainly if isolated wetlands receive no protection and there's no program requiring permitting, a portion of my business would disappear," he said.
