Hyundai considers possible Daewoo takeover.(Brief Article)

South Korea According to sources close to the government in Seoul, Daewoo Motor could end up in the hands of fellow Korean automaker Hyundai Motor. That would only happen if ongoing negotiations on the sale of Daewoo to GM were to fall through.

The government is anticipating an offer from GM for the purchase of some, at least, of the Daewoo assets any time now.

However, if that offer doesn't materialise -- as was the case with Ford -- or if GM's bid is judged to be too low, the Seoul government is said to have made emergency plans. One of these could involve the signing over of Daewoo to Hyundai.
