JOC invitations deemed 'inappropriate' Yomiuri The Japanese Olympic Committee was reprimanded by the International Olympic Committee late last month for inviting IOC officials to the Third East Asian Games, which opened in Osaka on Saturday morning, as part of its efforts to improve its bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, it was learned. The East Asian Games are in effect the final opportunity for Osaka, which received low ratings in the IOC's assessment of candidate cities for the 2008 games, to demonstrate its capacity to host the Olympics, observers said.
