Small contractors hope to stay in 'Miller time' mode

By winning a contract to work on the $400 million Miller Park, many established construction firms and contractors earned feathers in their caps. But for many upstarts and smaller firms, the project is expected to provide a more tangible positive, long-term impact on their growth, both in terms of revenue and employees.

"For a lot of companies, it will be-one of those projects that influence the company's future," said John Hunzinger, president of Hunzinger Construction Co., Brookfield, one of the prime contractors for the Miller Park project. "It will be a selling point and an important part of a company's and individual's experiences."

The lasting effects are likely to be seen throughout Wisconsin and particularly in the Milwaukee area, which was home to 85 percent of the 450 contracts awarded by the Miller Park district board.
