The E-Learning Boom

These days any business with an "E" in front of its name seems passe, but in Europe there's still at least one that has the spark of life. This is "e-learning," the use of technology to teach skills outside the classroom. Now that high-speed data networks are becoming commonplace, e-learning is expected to explode.

How to separate the hype from what is truly valuable about e-learning? And what exactly is it, anyway? Here's a quick survey of the good, the bad and the difficult to download.

Financial Professionals

Every year, British brokerage firms shell out 450 [pounds sterling] each to train 10,000 stockbrokers for the mandatory licensing exam. The industry's new program, Advancer, cuts in-class training from seven to two days. It doesn't cost any less than the classroom, but preliminary studies show that pass rates for brokers who use it are 20 percent higher.
