Gerard Howe, co-founder of Gabriel Communications, has left the management of the company, now known as NuVox Communications Inc.

Howe's departure comes a little more than three years after he and the late Bob Brooks started the Chesterfield-based telecommunications and Internet company. Four months ago, Gabriel merged with TriVergent Communications, a similar startup company based in South Carolina. The merged company took the name NuVox.

A source close to NuVox said Howe was considering launching yet another competitive local exchange business, one that would be based in St. Louis, but serve more rural parts of the country.
