Neighbors of a 13-acre parcel that Charlotte County wants to offer to the state for a veterans nursing home said "no way" on Monday to the project, and so did the county's Planning and Zoning Board.

The zoning board voted 4-0 to recommend to the county commissioners that they not change the residential zoning on the property to a commercial designation to allow for the home.

But the County Commission, which has the final say on the zoning change, has voiced strong support for the project and could ignore the zoning board's recommendation.
