GROUPER HITTING OFF BOCA GRANDE PASS.(LOCAL/STATE)

The Gulf of Mexico just might be the place to fish this weekend. Boca Grande guides have been taking to the Gulf and are doing very well, according to Phil Woods of the Slick II.

Woods did well on a pair of trips this week. Fishing southwest of the pass in 35 to 40 feet of water, his party landed several keeper red grouper and gag grouper.

On Tuesday, Bill Van Wagoner and sons, William and Kendall, of Dallas, landed keeper grouper and Spanish mackerel in 48 feet of water northwest of the pass.

Woods said guide Brian Vis of the Amanda landed a 27-pound permit on a crab while fishing a shrimpboat wreck …
