******** CORRECTION ********The following correction was published on Friday, September 20, 1996. A story Wednesday on the arrest of eight people on gambling charges in Port Charlotte incorrectly reported the severity of the crime, based on information from the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco. The charge of keeping a gambling house is a felony, not a misdemeanor.

State authorities raided four Port Charlotte bars Wednesday, confiscated five gambling machines and arrested bar owners, employees and a local man who they said oversaw the operation.
