Charlotte County wants to build a morgue on a one-acre site in Murdock, but the $200,000 asking price for the land is a little rich.

The county commissioners selected the parcel near Shoreland Street and Paulson Drive, but instructed their staff members Tuesday to negotiate for a lower price.

The commissioners' second choice was a two-acre portion of 100 acres the county owns on O'Donnell Boulevard in northwest Port Charlotte. The land is zoned for residential use.
