Ruth Warren Burr
Ruth Warren Burr, 79, a winter resident of Punta Gorda, died Feb. 5, 1997.
She was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Kennebunk, Maine, and recently had spent winters in Punta Gorda from Maine. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wheaton College in Kennebunk, earning a degree in economics. As an avid needleworker, she created intricate needleworking projects and was a member of the Southern Maine Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America. Other memberships include the Kennebunkport Historical Society, the Cape Arundel Golf Club and the South Congregational Church, all in Kennebunkport. She was a member of the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church in Punta Gorda.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth G. Burr Jr. of Kennebunk; a daughter, Alice B. Mobley of Louisville, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Homes, Punta Gorda Chapel, is in charge.
Cecil E. Hodson
Cecil E. Hodson, 89, Port Charlotte, died Feb. 5, 1997.
He was born May 19, 1907, in Hindsboro, Ill., and came to the Port Charlotte area 34 years ago from Atlanta. He was a correctional officer for the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge in Macon, Ga., and the Frateral Order of Police. An Army Air Corp. veteran, he instructed glider pilots.
Survivors include his wife, Magdalene; two sons, Francis B. of Elgin, Ill., and Gordon C. of Jonesboro, Ga.; two sisters, Epsie Struck of Lecanto, and Faye of Donaldson, Iowa; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, with the service following. Burial will be in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

Richard W. Marshall
Richard W. Marshall, 81, Rotonda West, died Feb. 6, 1997.
He was born May 28, 1915, in Hartford, Conn., and came to Rotonda West 20 years ago from Metuchen, N.J. A district manager for the Crane Corp. of New York for 20 years, he retired as vice president of Thornton Associates of Newark, N.J., after 16 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2710 in Rotonda West, a former board member of the Rotonda Men's Golf Association, was a trustee of Village on the Isle in Venice and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Rotonda West.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Snyder; a daughter, Susan P. of Stroudsburg, Pa.; a son, Donald C. of Pittsfield, Vt.; two sisters, Constance M. Newell of East Orleans, Mass., and Elizabeth Goodgame of Albuquerque, N.M.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel, with an Elks service at 3:30 p.m. Additional services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 551 Rotonda Blvd. W., Rotonda West, FL 33947.
Douglas C. Morgan
Douglas Carlton Morgan, 58, Punta Gorda, died Jan. 31, 1997.
He was born April 6, 1938, in Rutland, Ohio, and came to Punta Gorda several years ago. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include a sister, Ann Bush of Dayton, Ohio; and a nephew, Roy D. Bush of Vandalia, Ohio.
A private service will be next week at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel, is in charge.
William K. Poff
William K. Poff, 61, Punta Gorda, died Feb. 7, 1997.
He was born June 6, 1935, in Wise County, Va., and came to Punta Gorda 37 years ago from Virginia. He was a manager for U-Save grocery store.
Survivors include a son, Steve of Punta Gorda; a daughter, Sue Earnest of Punta Gorda; a sister, Helen of Minnesota; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, followed by an 11 a.m. service. Burial will be in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy L. Sooy
Dorothy L. Sooy, 74, Punta Gorda, died Feb. 6, 1997.
She was born March 1, 1922, in Plainfield, N.J., and came to Punta Gorda 16 years ago from Piscataway, N.Y. She was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church and the Mary Circle in Eagle Pointe Mobile Home Park in Punta Gorda.
