The Red Cross opened a shelter and called in 60 volunteers Monday as it assessed "damage" to the Spanish Lakes Mobile Home Park in Nokomis.

With more "victims" expected, the agency planned to open a family services center by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Sarasota County Emergency Management department prepared to deal with other problems posed by the approaching "monster storm."

It was just a drill, but the possibility of such a scenario is approaching quickly, with the hurricane season starting June 1.
