COORDINATOR WORKS HARD FOR THE RED CROSS.(LOCAL/STATE)

Like so many others before them, Harriet Wilkins and her husband, Dale, came to Manatee County from their native Michigan in 1994, seeking a quieter lifestyle for their approaching retirement years.

But this vivacious lady had far too much energy to simply sit and stare, so she began working at Manatee Glens, where she was to teach CNA classes. While at the Glens, Harriett and Dale organized a choir at the facility's Senior Center.

For nearly a year now, Harriett has held the position of volunteer coordinator at the Manatee County Chapter of the American Red Cross. There, she finds the flexible hours less stressful and is enjoying her work with both the youth and adult volunteers.

In recent months Harriett has organized a Volunteer Recognition Brunch, sought to make the services offered at the chapter more culturally diversified and is following …
