A Venice High student and a Booker Middle School student flew to Tallahassee on Monday to help Gov. Lawton Chiles and other state officials create a two-year anti-tobacco campaign geared toward stopping young people from smoking.
Brandi Riede, 16, a junior at Venice High School and Heather Perkins, 12, a seventh-grader at Booker Middle, are meeting today with 38 other youths. The group is reviewing radio and television commercials, billboard ads and other public relations tools designed in places such as Arizona, California, Massachusetts and Oregon to prevent and stop young people from smoking.
