Defending champion Charlotte, led by Elgin Hicks' four wins, captured 11 events to pace the boys track team to the Class 5A-District 12 title.

Sarasota needed wins in the final two events to edge Port Charlotte for the girls crown on Thursday at Powell-Davis Stadium in Venice.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for the Class 5A-South I Region next Thursday at George Jenkins High in Lakeland.

The Tarpons easily outdistanced runner-up Venice, 151-103, while Port Charlotte was third.
