One lane of traffic over the Hatchett Creek Bridge in Venice was closed for several hours Monday while state transportation workers began changing rusted bolts under the 33-year-old structure.

A state official said he hopes that the routine maintenance work will be completed by Wednesday, but it may take all week.

"We're shooting for Wednesday. It may not be," said Ken Rooks, highway maintenance supervisor for the Florida Department of Transportation in Fort Myers.

Traffic was routed through one lane, which caused some delays. But Venice police said they received no complaints about the traffic.
