Today I am expecting an important phone call. This makes me fair game for telemarketers, who betray their excitement on finding an actual, live person at home by greeting me with that breathless rush of well-rehearsed words that always so poignantly gives them away.
So, three times this morning, I have been able to ask a question that's been on my mind lately: "With the economy doing so well and jobs so plentiful, so that even untrained and under qualified applicants are getting snapped up by desperate employers, how come you're still at the blackwater bottom of the free-market food chain, calling up total strangers and begging them to be stupid enough to let you make your pitch?"
