For me, it started Saturday morning.

I woke up early, hit the shower, and dressed for comfort, although with temperatures in the mid-90s, true comfort could not be attained through wardrobe selections.

Once clothed, I headed straight for Indian Mound Park for the Englewood Jaycees Cardboard Boat Race. As I searched the surrounding streets for a place to park, my mind hearkened back to the old days, when the race attracted about five entries and spectators numbered less than 50.

Now dozens of home made boats compete before hundreds of spectators. There's music, vendors, arts and crafts people, T-shirt decorating, and …
