Exports of U.S. shoes to Italy double in '88 MILAN (FNS) -- Exports of American-made footwear to Italy skyrocketed last year, more than doubling in quantity from 1987, according to ANCI, the Italian footwear manufacturers association.

Reflecting the lower value of the U.S. dollar, aggressive marketing efforts by American firms and a current fashion trend in Italy for U.S. athletic shoes, American shoe exports to Italy grew by 105 percent in 1988, ANCI said. Imports of American-made shoes into Italy totaled 3.5 million pairs last year, ANCI reported, compared with about 1.7 million pairs in 1987.
