While Charlotte County's local political races were settled in September, the county's biggest political issue will be decided Nov. 3.

Should the county continue to collect a one percent sales tax - first approved by voters to pay for a new justice center and county jail - until Dec. 31, 2002?

Charlotte County officials say that by voting yes, residents will buy themselves parks, roads, sidewalks and a "quality of life" that would otherwise take decades to achieve. The sales tax would help build ballfields, nature trails, a better library, walkways near schools and an evacuation route for Englewood, according to …
