While Santa Claus focused on chimney tops last week, one or more Grinches made off with eyeglass frames worth $100,000 from a Sarasota store.

A thief or thieves struck Pearle Vision Center overnight, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and took most of its high-priced designer frames, police said.

The burglar or burglars broke in through the front door of 4006 S. Tamiami Trail and stole Eddie Bauer, Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger frames in a variety of colors and styles.

"They knew what they wanted and left all the cheap stuff," said Bob Gorevan, a Sarasota police detective. "Somebody targeted a specific product …
