An eagle's nest near Lockwood Ridge Road appears to be abandoned and is unlikely to block an upcoming road project.
Last week, a Herald-Tribune reader reported seeing an eagle's nest between The Trails subdivision and a dirt stretch of Lockwood Ridge Road that the Manatee County Commission had just unanimously decided to widen and pave. County Commissioner Jon Bruce said the county's staff would look into the matter.
On Monday, Bruce said the nest is about 900 feet west of the future extension of Lockwood Ridge Road. That distance is roughly the equivalent of three football fields.
