A Port Charlotte man arrested in connection with a recent rash of church burglaries told investigators he broke into the sanctuaries because he needed money to buy drugs.
On Saturday evening, William Travis Cannady, 28, 200 block Cypress St., was arrested and charged with four church burglaries in Charlotte County. The Sheriff's Office says he's a suspect in six others.
Ten burglaries at eight Port Charlotte churches and one Punta Gorda church were reported between June 29 and July 15. Nine of the burglaries occurred between July 9 and July 15.
