Drag to drive: Sometimes anticipation overshoots reality and gets shot down in a flaming ball of disappointment. That's what happened when the first warm, sunny week of spring hit One AutoWeek Tower, and among the five drop-tops in the parking lot sat a cutesy red Cabrio. Nobody complained when assigned the VW, not with the mercury stretching for the mid-70s. But they whined when they returned the keys. ``This motor couldn't pull an automatic 10 years ago, and it doesn't now,'' said one tester. The real drag: For all the VWs and Audis we have come to love, the 2.0-liter automatic Cabrio comes up short and slow off the line. Hey, VW, it's time to pull the chute.
