Solvay has announced the acquisition of American Home Products BV's Influvac influenza vaccine business in Weesp, the Netherlands.

When in 1997 AHP's subsidiary Fort Dodge acquired Solvay's animal health business (including the production site) it was agreed that Fort Dodge would produce the influenza vaccine in bulk for Solvay.

The latter had an option to buy the factory, which it has now done with retrospective effect from 1 Apr 2001.

Because of the rapid growth in demand for Influvac, Solvay has decided to increase production capacity at the factory.

It will also expand conditioning capacity at its site in Olst, in the Netherlands. …
