Is Mohammed Khatami afraid? Iran's president still hasn't said if he's running in the June 8 elections. Meanwhile his hard-line opponents, who control the Army and the courts, are making war on his supporters. Dozens of reformist newspapers have been shut down. Writers, speakers and parliamentarians have been beaten and locked up. Just last week 42 members of a pro-Khatami party were arrested for no apparent crime.
