A Midwestern winter can devour even the sturdiest of cars. How would our tiny Insight, with its aluminum chassis and 14-inch wheels, hold up? Better than some of us expected, but it hasn't been trouble-free, either.
After the biggest snowfall of the year, we noticed that there wasn't much traction and the car's tail was hard to keep in line. With a 60/40 distribution, balance is not the Insight's best attribute, and its hard tires prioritize low rolling resistance over traction.
A set of Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires made a difference, though some staffers were still unhappy with its handling. One explained, ``It has more grip now, but it feels dicey, more prone to oversteer.''
