Researchers with Vector Medical Technologies, Inc., reported study results demonstrating the company's Methinone enkephalin vaccine increases numbers of T cells and natural killer cells in HIV patients.
Nicholas P. Plotnikoff, PhD, professor of Pharmacology at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, presented his findings regarding Methinone enkephalin ("Met-enkephalin"), in his presentation of "Met-enkephalin, therapeutic AIDS vaccine," on April 4, 2001, at a meeting of the American Association of Immunologists.
Plotnikoff, also an executive at Vector, and his research team are conducting Phase II clinical trials in human beings that have shown that Met-enkephalin strengthens and dramatically increases the number of killer T cells that destroy invading viruses, specifically HIV. Plotnikoff et al. have demonstrated that it is possible to treat HIV infected patients with Met-enkephalin and thereby increase the number of T cells/killer cells that destroy HIV with no detrimental side effects ...
