Psychological effects aside, consolidation within The Boeing Co.'s commercial airplanes division could have a bigger impact on the Puget Sound region's commercial real estate market than the company's headquarters move, brokers say.
In announcing last week that it will shift its 757 fuselage work to Wichita, Kan., Boeing disclosed plans to reduce factory space by some 3 million square feet by the end of next year. The reductions are expected primarily at the company's Auburn plant and the large Plant 2 facility next to Boeing's headquarters building on East Marginal Way South in Seattle.
