There should be more cars like the Dodge Stratus R/T. No, it's not the quickest car, nor the best handler, though it holds its own on both counts. It has a five-speed manual transmission, and these days it's hard to find a manual in anything but an econocar or something with an expensive German name. For those who like to drive, a manual goes a long way toward making driving more fun. It's especially nice in a car that not only looks good but has the size and utility for everyday use.
Many owners agreed. After cross-shopping such cars as the Honda Accord Coupe, Audi A4, Acura 3.2CL, Pontiac Grand Prix and Chrysler Sebring Coupe, most AutoFile respondents said they liked the Stratus R/T package. Owners paid an average of $21,220, and in return got a car with a host of standard features not found on lesser Stratus models: a seven-speaker AM-FM stereo with in-dash cassette and CD players; center display with temperature and compass readouts; power four-wheel discs (the SE gets rear drums); larger all-season tires; and remote keyless entry.
