It's a rare opportunity to own one of Seattle's oldest businesses: The Pioneer Square building that houses Merchants Cafe will be put up for sale in a package that also includes the restaurant.

Brian Scott, who has owned the restaurant for seven years and the property for four years, said this week that he plans to sell the building and the restaurant, in part because of the turmoil that has intermittently plagued the Pioneer Square neighborhood in recent years. Scott, a stock broker with Salomon Smith Barney, said he has also come to realize that the property needs a more hands-on landlord.
