Boeing news shocks region

There is perhaps no other instance in the country in which a city and a company have been so synonymous as Seattle and Boeing.

Thus the manner in which Boeing announced this week that it was moving its corporate headquarters out of Seattle seemed somehow beneath what might have been expected from the company that has grown up with Seattle over the past eight decades.

In the news release issued by the company Wednesday, plans for "moving its headquarters to a new location" were relegated to a spot below Boeing's elevation of three business-unit leaders to CEOs and its "plans for leaner corporate center focused on shareholder …
