Anthony Thirlby - Production manager at Pepper
Your first career plans centred around sport not print.
Yes, I studied for a Btec in leisure and recreation with the intention of becoming a sports manager and from the age of 16 to 21 I played mid- field for Exeter City.
What made you move from football to print?
I became surplus to requirements, as they say, and at the suggestion of Alan Ball who was an ex-manager of mine, I joined Management Graphics in Reading as production controller.
Did leaving football come as quite a blow?
I was sad for a while but it was probably a blessing in disguise as I really enjoy my present job. Although I liked the laddish culture at the time, I don't think I would now. It's good to meet a wide variety of people, too.
