Starch manufacturer's venture lands $1.8M

Eoscene Inc., a spinoff from Penford Corp., has nabbed $1.8 million in seed capital slated for the sale and marketing of its Web-based business software.

The Seattle startup, 15 percent owned by Bellevue-based Penford, makes software that pulls data out of large corporate databases and makes it possible for new and old business software systems to talk to one another and share that data.

Along with the first launch of its software in early January, Eoscene has attracted three paying customers. Two are related to its parent company: Inglewood, Colo.-based Penford Food Ingredients and another Penford spinoff, …
