DG's BIG SPLASH
Data General hit the field running this fall with its announcement of "the most powerful superminicomputer available," as well as other new top-of-the-line hardware and software products.
The products announced include:
* Eclipse MV/40000 and MV/40000 HA (high availability) computer systems, with a performance range from 14 to more than 50 million instructions per second (MIPS).
* Message-based Reliable Channel subsystem, a highly-available, 400 million bits per second channel subsystem, the first use of mainframe-like I/O on a superminicomputer.
* AOS/VS II, an enhanced version of the AOS/VS operating system, which supports additional high availability features and enhanced communications performance capability.
* Data-Sharing Architecture, a system software framework which provides users with a high-perfromance approach to distributed computing for superminicomputer-class applications.
