2001 MAR 15 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Women in the U.S. who are referred to primary physicians are more likely to have a Pap test in the year following their referrals, suggesting that improved access to preventive care might be achieved outside of the context of managed care, through the voluntary cooperation of physicians and state Medicaid agencies.
A study in the March 2001 issue of the American Journal of Public Health finds that 38% of referred women enrolled in Delaware Medicaid underwent Pap tests, compared with 27% of agematched women who were not referred ("The impact of referral to a primary physician on cervical cancer ...
