Bankruptcy reform legislation easily passed the House but was slowed in the Senate by a series of amendments.
The bill, which was blocked last year by President Clinton, would require more debtors to pay off debts by forcing them to file under Chapter 13 of the bankruptcy code instead of Chapter which wipes their slates clean.
Business groups praised the House's 306-108 vote in favor of the bill and urged the Senate to act quickly.
