Piracy is on the rampage in many parts of the world. Regardless of their size, U.S. companies should take the right precautions to protect their most precious assets--their name, copyrights, patents and trademarks.

Foreign pirates are ready and waiting to take advantage of such intellectual property that many small and mid-sized businesses take for granted in the United States.

An estimated 90 percent of all business software in China is bootlegged, pirated copies.

In the Golden Arcade, a prominent bootleg marketplace in Hong Kong, Chinese-manufactured CD-ROMs allegedly sell for $7, yet they contain dozens of compressed software titles that would sell in the United States for thousands of dollars.
