Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night...'' aww, the heck with those mail carriers-what about the plight of the average automotive journalist?
Our long-term Toyota Tundra carried the mail for many staffers who all found the lumbering 4x4 well-suited for a variety of needs. From carrying half an art show worth of craft supplies to a middle school to hauling home an eight-point hitetail deer, the Tundra with its full-size bed and deep crew cab was up to all tasks. It traversed four-lane freeways and backwoods two-tracks with equal aplomb.
And then it started snowing. Lots of snow. Deep snow. Drifts. Ice. Slush. We never found a need for 4wd low, but the Tundra made many a surefooted trip home to the suburban hinterlands locked into 4wd high. It took no more than a quick glance at our white-knuckled fellow drivers to know that we were lucky to be at the helm of the Tundra vs. some lesser commuter craft. ...
