I had the honor of being installed as National Chairman of CFDD at NACM-National's Credit Congress in Baltimore last year. As I reflected upon the year ahead, I set two major goals for the organization and myself.
The first goal was to improve member participation. Like so many volunteer organizations, CFDD is dependent upon its hard working members to keep the chapters successful: the foundation of the organization is this participation. However, participation in CFDD is so much more. Leadership opportunities abound: the professionalism and interaction of the chapters promote good learning grounds for team building. In addition, members who actively participate gain valuable networking connections and roadmap points. I am happy to say that member participation is up in many chapters and is an initiative that all are actively working on.
Education is the primary mission of CFDD. Over the past 10 years, CFDD has awarded over $800,000 in scholarships: one of the main criteria for these scholarship awards being participation in the organization. With so many companies cutting back on educational benefits, these scholarships become a prime source of gaining the professional education necessary in today's changing business environment. By being active in a chapter, members become eligible for the scholarships, increase their knowledge through monthly meetings and seminars, and have the opportunity for mentoring from credit peers.
